Do you know what to look for in a Financial Advisor?
Hi, it’s Jonathan from Team MWB, with a slight change to the format of this week’s newsletter. You see, rather than just sending you a weekly blog post, I thought I’d try something different this week! So, in this week’s newsletter you’ll find a few different things. Things like:
A roundup of some of my favorite investing articles from the past week, for your perusal!
A few of the biggest financial headlines this week, and my take on what they might mean for you!
And, of course, my most recent investing post, detailing the top five things that I looked for when choosing my own Financial Advisor, more than ten years ago (and the reasons why I’m still with the same guy today!)
Let’s dive right in!
This article, from one of my favorite writers on Medium, really caused me to stop and think. It made me realize that I’m guilty of following too much of the hype and “celebrity power” inherent in the stock market today. In particular, as it relates to understanding cryptocurrency and the rise of Bitcoin. To put it another way; this article reminded me why it’s better to get your financial advice from economists and folks who have actual education and certifications, rather than Elon Musk’s Twitter feed: https://jessicalexicus.medium.com/bitcoin-is-going-to-bankrupt-the-global-economy-6f7e03c98ae5
Next up on the docket: this article from Forbes on a brand new type of ETF: a social sentiment ETF. If this ETF makes you say “WTF?”, read more: https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattklein/2021/03/04/dave-portnoys-buzzy-social-median--etf-what-you-really-need-to-know/?sh=66a2dc172af3
Last but not least, if you aren’t familiar with Tim Denning, he’s one you need to read. This one, which is one of his highest-read articles ever, makes it crystal clear why hiding your money under the proverbial mattress (or in a regular bank savings account) is actually a recipe for disaster: https://medium.com/mind-cafe/you-will-destroy-yourself-financially-if-you-save-9d7ece62d05f
From the Headlines:
The Biden Administration has passed (with zero GOP support) the $1.9T coronavirus relief package. Here’s what that means for you, and why you should care: https://www.marketwatch.com/story/heres-who-will-get-1-400-stimulus-checks-with-house-set-to-approve-1-9-trillion-covid-relief-bill-11615306312?mod=home-page

CNN Business takes a look at the past year of Covid-fueled insanity in the stock market, and recommends how to protect yourself from further volatility in 2021: https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/12/investing/diversification-stocks-investing/index.html
And Finally:
If you are looking for the help and expertise of a Certified Financial Advisor (CFA) but are wondering how to decide which financial advisor to entrust with your money, I’ve written a little something that I think might help:

That’s all from me this week, thanks for reading and as always, if you found this helpful, I’d love to hear from you! Drop me a comment or let me know how I’m doing by going to teammwb.substack.com and leaving me a comment!
